Kambo

What is Kambo*?

Kambo, also known as sapo, is a venomous secretion of the Giant Tree Frog, Phyllomedusa bicolor, containing hundreds of peptides that can be beneficial to humans.  It is non-psychedelic and legal within the United States.  The Giant Tree Frog is found in the Amazon rainforests of Peru and Brazil.  Indigenous tribes have used this sacrament throughout their histories in rituals, to improve hunting abilities, purification, physical healing, and mind, body, spirit enlightenment.  The amazing benefits of kambo were realized by journalist Peter Gorman in the 1980s and it was introduced to western society for its potent healing potential of many, many physical, mental, and spiritual conditions and ailments.

The Giant Tree Frog lives in trees along the Amazon River.  To harvest kambo, a distinctive call is used to lure the frog at night or early morning. When captured, its limbs are tied to stakes and the frog secretes a defensive poison.  The secretion is scraped from the frog’s back and limbs and then transferred to a wooden stick.  The frog is released unharmed.  Frogs kept in captivity do not produce this secretion, therefore they are not kept nor commercially farmed.  The kambo Two Pillars uses is always ethically sourced.

Research studies show that kambo contains amino acid chains, called peptides, that bind to human cell receptors.  They include phyllocaerulein, phyllomedusin, phyllokinin, sauvagine, dermaseptin B2, adenoregulin, deltorphins, and dermorphin.  These peptides have been shown to strengthen the immune system, inhibit pathogens, have analgesic properties, improve gastrointestinal and endocrine functions, and improve blood circulation.

Uses and Possible Benefits**

Kambo is probably best known for its purgative effects, targeting the areas of your body, mind, and spirit complex that can benefit the most from purification.  Common intentions include releasing toxins, cleansing major organ systems, and releasing negative energy.  Additionally, people commonly use kambo for relief from a myriad of conditions, including:

      • Chronic fatigue
      • Depression, PTSD and anxiety

How is it Administered?

The first part of the process involves drinking about two liters of water at your session.  Next, a practitioner holds a stick over a flame or hot coals until red hot, then touches the recipient’s shoulder, arm, leg, or foot area with the stick, usually two or three times, leaving cylindrical burn marks on the skin (usually ⅛” to ¼” in diameter).

Then the uppermost layer of skin (epidermis) is exposed by gently scraping the burned skin aside. The practitioner then covers each of the burned spots with the paste-like frog secretion. Each burn site receives a “dot” of the kambo.

From the wound, the kambo enters the lymphatic system and bloodstream, where it’s said to race around the body scanning for problems. This usually results in some immediate side effects such as heart palpitations, sweating, muscle cramps, swelling, vomiting, and a strong emotional reaction which is intense in the moment, but can leave you feeling relaxed after about an hour.

While the experience is not for everyone, kambo’s cleansing effects begin within minutes of administration, and it leaves most people feeling symptom relief in the days and weeks after treatment.

Your safety is our #1 priority

Kambo is the frog’s defensive secretion and you must carefully consider your participation.  Although kambo is generally considered to be safe when administered by a trained practitioner, there are definite conditions that contradict its use.  To that end, we get to know each participant before a session and require each participant to fill out a form and have a discovery call with a Sacred Pillars Church facilitator.  You can schedule this call using the below button.

Preparing for Your Kambo Session & Aftercare

We will work with you at your session to determine how many “dots” to administer.

Please take preparing for your kambo session as seriously as we take your safety.  We strictly adhere to these guidelines.  When you arrive at your session, we will ask you if you complied with these preparation steps.  If you did not, we will not administer kambo to you and no refund will be given.

1-Month or More Prior

  • No 5-MeO-DMT (bufo)
  • No iboga
  • No chemotherapy or radiation treatments 6 weeks prior

1-Week Prior

  • No recreational drug use or use of DMT (dimethyltryptamine), LSD (lysergic acid), ketamine, etc.
  • No alcohol use
  • No water or dry fasting, colonics, enemas, liver flushes or any water-based detox, sweat lodges or saunas

3-Days Prior

  • Set your intentions.
    • Why do you feel called to kambo?
    • What are your intentions, be it physical, emotional, spiritual or energetic?
    • What do you wish to release?
  • Avoid 5HTP, dieting pills, and melatonin supplements.
  • Eat a clean, vegan diet if possible eliminating processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, high fat/sugar/spicy/salty foods, and meats.
  • Do not eliminate salt completely.  Small amounts are needed for your safety.

Same Day, Prior to Session

  • Do not eat food for 8-10 hours prior to your session.
  • Avoid all supplements.
  • Avoid taking any over-the-counter or prescription medications, unless absolutely necessary (this must be discussed with Sacred Pillars prior to your session). Not only can they affect your safety, they will likely be purged out and wasted.  You can resume your regular medication regime after the session.
  • Do not consume cannabis.
  • The only acceptable substance to ingest prior to your session is normal amounts of water.
  • DO NOT DRINK EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF WATER prior to arriving to your session.
  • Before administering kambo, you will be asked to drink approximately 2 liters of water (available onsite) to allow for easier purging and cleansing. Drinking too much water more than 15 minutes before the application of the kambo can dilute electrolyte concentrations in the body and cause a serious condition called hyponatremia. Hydrate normally prior to your session, but don’t over drink.
  • Remove jewelry for the session.
  • If menstruating, kambo may cause increased blood flow for up to 72 hours.

Aftercare

  • A light meal/snacks will be provided after your session.
  • Listen to your body and what it needs.  Rest. Relax. Sleep.
  • Rehydrate.
  • Continue eating a clean diet for at least 24 hours, without alcohol or caffeine.
  • Do not fast or detox for at least 7 days.
  • Use natural products such as aloe vera, calendula or coconut oil to aid in healing the administration sites and minimize scarring.

What to Bring

  • A refillable, covered water bottle for drinking water.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows for access to the area of treatment (typically the upper arm or lower leg). A change of clothes is recommended. Accidents do happen and it’s nice to have some clean clothes to change into.
  • Blanket and pillow.
  • A hair tie to tie back long hair.
